TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE EARNS A PODIUM FINISH AT THE SOLOMONS OFFSHORE GRAND PRIX

Team AMSOIL Offshore traveled to Solomons, Maryland to participate in the OPA AMSOIL Offshore Series Race of the 2012 Season. In years past, the weather at this event was one of the biggest challenges with rain keeping the spectator crowds in check. This year was different as the weather was perfect for all of the festivities and racing.

Also, Race Producer Mike Yowaiski was able to obtain the entire County launch ramp facility for the dry pits, including the crane, which provided an excellent area for spectators to see the boats and talk to the team members. As part of Team AMSOIL’s display, AMSOIL dealers Manuel Melentez and Cristina Caguin set up their display and helped promote AMSOIL products for the entire weekend.

On Saturday, Team AMSOIL ran a distance of what would equal nearly two races trying different set ups for the AMSOIL Skater. Wind conditions that existed on Saturday were not forecasted to be present for Sunday. After testing, the AMSOIL boat was moved to the annual charity party location at the Solomons Fire Station for thousands to view. Team AMSOIL was on hand to sign autographs and greet the fans.

Sunday proved to be a warmer day with nearly no wind. Bob Teague and Paul Whittier reviewed the performance of previous day’s set ups and reviewed lap times to pick propellers, gear ratio, and weight placement. The Cat Lite class raced as part of the third and main event for the day.

When the green flag dropped, the usual battle began between Team AMSOIL and Phoenixparts.com.

Phoenixparts.com got the edge on one of the straight-a-ways and continued to gain from a half second to a second per lap and held on for the win. Team AMSOIL finished a close second.

Team AMSOIL congratulates Ray Contreras and Anthony Smith for their win and a great season. As a result, the perpetual Stugots Cup won by Team AMSOIL last season will now go to Team Phoenixparts.com. Team AMSOIL will be on a mission to get it back next season.

Team AMSOIL now heads for the AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series / OPA World Championships in Jupiter, Florida which will be held October 18th through the 21st.
