For more than 30 years, Teague On Tech—a question-and-answer column—was the most popular department in Powerboat magazine. As most performance-boat enthusiasts know, Powerboat ceased publication in 2011, but Bob Teague, the man behind the column, is still very much with us as the owner of the renowned Teague Custom Marine, an engine-building, rigging, service, restoration and parts shop in Valencia, Calif. He’s also a multi-time offshore racing world champion who runs a 36-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran in Super Boat International’s Superboat class.
Teague currently authors “Teague’s Take,” a wide-ranging column for the bi-monthly digital Speed On The Water digital magazine. (He’s also a test driver for Speedboat magazine.) But while his excellent contribution covers a host of subjects, it is not a technical question-and-answer column for folks facing issues with their powerboat engines, drives, setup, accessories and more. And there’s still plenty of need and desire among powerboat owners for just that.
That’s why we’re bringing back “Teague On Tech” to speedonthewater.com as a regular feature on the website and digital magazine. Teague has generously agreed to answer questions from readers. (Back in the day, and we doubt this has changed, he didn’t even have to look up part numbers when he wrote his column.) Of course, not every question will be answered—but you’ll never know if you don’t send one (or more).
Right now, we don’t know how frequently Teague on Tech will be published on the site. That will largely depend on the flow and quality of questions, as well as the time Teague needs to answer to them. But eventually we’d like to see one or two a week and use the best to publish compilations in each issue of our digital magazine.
