From August 9 to 10, 2019 The Big Cat Poker Run once again returns to the California Delta to benefit the Discovery Bay Lions Club. All boaters are welcome to participate. Join us at the event and help to raise thousands of dollars for local charities.
Teague Custom Marine has been a co-title sponsor with Colledgewood Inc. since the event’s inception in the year 2000. Volunteers from the local community and the Discovery Bay Lion’s Club take care of poker run registration duties and orchestrating many details of the event. This unique poker run has become one of the largest performance boating events on the West Coast and takes participants on a boating adventure through the waters of the California Delta with stops in different cities.
Fun to note, that although the event name includes the word “Cat”, this is not to preclude V-bottoms from entering the poker run. The moniker “Big Cat” refers to the Lion head in the logo of the Discovery Bay Lions Club. All types and sizes of boats are welcome and with the addition of a “short course” option, there is something for everybody.
The weekend of fun begins Friday, August 9th with a lunch run to Smith’s Landing in Antioch, CA, with an optional tour of the Delta after lunch. This is a great time to familiarize yourself with the local area, where resident boaters lead visiting boats on a tour of the Delta. A welcoming party and registration follows that evening. Saturday is the Poker Run allowing plenty of time to socialize. Poker draw and party follows Saturday evening at the Discovery Bay Marina.
Two routes will be available, a shorter run and also the traditional long course run. The short run will be from Discovery Bay to Sugar Barge Resort, to University Plaza Waterfront Hotel in Stockton for lunch and then back to Discovery Bay. The longer run will be from Discovery Bay to Pittsburg Yacht Club, to University Plaza Waterfront Hotel in Stockton for lunch and then Back to Discovery Bay.

Traditionally, Big Cat is a huge success: with a strong showing of boats, perfect weather, fun boating, parties with live music, and best of all a safe event with zero incidents. Bob Teague explained to speedonthewater.com part of what makes Big Cat unique: “We’re out here with everything from ships to personal watercraft and there are 1,500 miles of freshwater waterways. It’s just a class of people who know about boating, have nice equipment and know how to get along the waterways…The water is fantastic, the crowd is amazing and we have the kind camaraderie people would die for.” We can’t wait this year’s event!

- Breakfast and Registration 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM
- Mandatory Drivers Meeting 9:05 AM
- Depart for First Stop: Stops at Pittsburg and Stockton for large boats, Stops at Bethel Island and Stockton for smaller crafts
- Everyone to Lunch at Stockton University Hotel
- Return to Discovery Bay for poker hand draw*, dinner & entertainment with the 925 Party Dance Band
