Team AMSOIL Offshore Wins the OPA World Championships

Only a few days after Team AMSOIL departed from the Key West World Championships, Team AMSOIL was again back on the water competing at the OPA World Championships in Englewood, Florida.  The AMSOIL Skater was brought back to its Florida home at McManus Superboats for a complete check up for a couple of days.  During this period, the AMSOIL Skater was also taken up to Sarasota to the ABC 7 studios and used for an interview with Bob Teague on the Suncoast View news program.

On Thursday, Team AMSOIL moved into the pits at the Englewood Beach Waterfest site.  The AMSOIL rigs were prominently set up near the event stage.  The boat was set up and tested early Friday morning and final decisions were made on balance and prop selection.

The Supercats raced in the mid day race on both Friday and Sunday.  Team AMSOIL was assigned the outside starting lane on Friday.

When the green flag dropped, team AMSOIL battled with Cleveland Construction for a couple of laps until gaining an inside line in turn 2 and pulling alongside them on the back stretch.  Team AMSOIL held on to the lead until the finish.

Sunday’s race was similar with slightly rougher conditions with Team AMSOIL again taking the win.  The combination of the two days of racing resulted in Team AMSOIL earning the OPA World Championship title in the SuperCat class.

The City of Englewood and Sarasota County did a great job of promoting and organizing the event.  Shuttle buses were also set up bringing thousands of spectators to Manasota Key to view the races on a course running very close to the viewing beach and festival site.  The races were broadcast live on ABC affiliates throughout the region and as far north as Missouri.  The races were also broadcast live on the internet via Ustream.
