Event President Capt. Ron Duggan spoke to Powerboat Nation about the members of the new class of Hall of Famers.

Bob Teague is, of course, the world-champion marathon racer and owner/founder of Teague Custom Marine of Valencia, CA. An avid boat enthusiast, he established his company in 1972 to help afford his own boat racing program. He’s also accomplished racer of endurance and offshore boats. In the 1980s, Teague was technical editor of Powerboat Magazine, a position he held until the magazine folded in 2011; he later came on board the staff of Speedboat Magazine, where he still writes a regular tech-advice column and is a test-team driver. “He comes and does the broadcast for us every year,” Duggan says. “If there’s anybody who knows everything about every part of a boat, it’s Bob. Having him on the broadcast is invaluable—he knows exactly what kind of power everybody is running. He lends some serious credibility to the entire broadcast. His expertise can’t be overstated.”

Myrick Coil is a mechanic, shop foreman at Missouri’s renowned Performance Boat Center, multiple World Champion offshore boat racer, avid fisherman, Speedboat Magazine test team driver and father of four small children. In 2015, he won the Top Gun award at the LOTO Shootout, driving Don Onken’s American Ethanol Mystic to 208 mph with Mystic owner John Cosker on the sticks. “He was also an instrumental part of Dave Scott’s crew for all those years with the Nauti Marine and Budweiser boats,” Duggan says. “He’s known as one of the engine gurus around here.”

Tiffany Maasen, the wife of Poly Lift Boat Lifts co-owner Mark Maasen, is being honored for numerous reasons. “Not only for her volunteerism, but for promoting the Shootout in many ways,” Duggan says. “She’s been an integral part of the auction committee and the Street Party, and what she’s been doing for the Make-A-Wish kids for the last decade is incredible. The amount of money she has been able to raise for those kids has been something really special. She has helped to expand the event and is one of those volunteers who will just do whatever it takes. She’s always there, and if there’s anybody that the committee needs to help on something, she’s always willing to help.” The Maasens are also frequent participants in the Shootout, driving a number of boats with the Poly Lift logo.

Brad Harrington is the owner/throttleman of the 1990 Saber Cyclone Team Kansas, a frequent Shootout participant (with driver Ken Moore) and winner of his class. “Brad’s been coming to the Shootout ever since it’s been at Captain Ron’s, and I believe he was involved for quite a few years prior to it coming here,” Duggan says. “He’s a great ambassador for the event. He’s always helping promote the event and trying to get more and more racers to come down. He may not have the fastest boat on the course, but he almost always wins in his class—maybe every year the Shootout has been here. He’s just a really good guy. They come down here from Kansas and are just one of our mainstays.”

Tim Kowalski does a little bit of everything. He’s the owner of Bio-Kleen (Kalamazoo, MI), often seen in his 1993 Cigarette 35′ Café Racer, powered by twin 700-hp Sterling engines. “He’s not only a sponsor and vendor, he gives Make-a-Wish rides to the kids, participates in the shootout and the poker runs, and is involved in the Street Party and everything we have going on,” Duggan says. “He’s one of those guys you can always count on being here, every year we’ve had it at Capt. Ron’s.”

Each of the Hall of Famers will have a plaque in their name added to the famous Bob Morgan Memorial Shootout Hall of Fame wall at the Lake of the Ozarks. You can help celebrate these amazing people and all that they’ve done for the LOTO Shootout. Make your reservations online at lakeoftheozarksshootout.com.
