TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE GETS BACK IN THE WINNER’S CIRCLE AT THE 2012 SAINT CLAIR RIVER CLASSIC

Team AMSOIL Offshore traveled to Saint Clair, Michigan with just one thing in mind: get back into the winner’s circle. After missing a win by a few seconds at the last race in East Tawas, Michigan which was preceded by a “stuff” in the rough waters of Ocean City during the first race of the AMSOIL Offshore Racing Series sanctioned by OPA, the Team was ready to come back strong and claim the top spot on the podium.

Once again, the town of Saint Clair went all out to put on an incredible festival event around the racing activities along the city’s water front. Michigan Highway 29 was again closed to traffic for three days to provide a place for the race pits, vendors, and parties. Every day included music by top name bands in the Park. It is estimated that nearly 100,000 people attended the event on each day.

Team AMSOIL was set up at the main entrance to the Saint Clair River Classic event which included AMSOIL product displays by local dealers.

Team AMSOIL spent Thursday and Friday going through the boat and systems preparing for a long test day on Saturday. Bob Teague decided to try a completely new set up for this course compared to previous years as he explained, “Last year I missed the setup from the standpoint of wind direction, which has a lot to do with making a boat run good there.” Testing proved that two set ups proved to generate better lap times than the previous year. After nearly 100 miles of testing, Bob and Paul decided that one of the two set ups could be a winning combination and that a final decision would be based on the wind conditions on Sunday.

The wind conditions on Sunday turned out to be less than they were on Saturday. Even though the wind was calm, the waters can still be tricky on the River due to back wash from the walls and the boiling current in the turns. After studying lap times from Saturday, Paul and Bob selected the set up that they felt would be the best and prepared the boat accordingly.

Team AMSOIL raced in the third and main event. When the pace boat dropped the green flag, Team AMSOIL took a slight lead holding off Team Phoenixparts.com. For the next 5 or 6 laps, Team Phoenixparts.com presented a significant challenge but was not able to catch the very fast Team AMSOIL 368 Skater.

From that point, Team AMSOIL was able to add a few seconds lead on each lap finishing the 15 lap race about 23 seconds ahead of Team Phoenixparts.com and about a minute ahead of the third place boat, Infinity.

At the conclusion of the event, Team AMSOIL Offshore was given the checkered flag and paraded along the mile long spectator crowd in celebration.

As reported by Speedonthewater.com, “[Bob] Teague admitted it was nice to get the victory at one of his favorite events, but he says the Team has a ways to go if it wants to win a championship.”

Team AMSOIL is “one of the most accomplished offshore racing teams ever” and has captured the OPA High Points Championship in its class for the last 5 years, including presentation of the prestigious Stugots Cup, awarded to the Team for an Overall High Points Championship in 2011.

We are proud to announce that AMSOIL is the returning sponsor for the 2012 AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series sanctioned by OPA Racing. Cameras will again follow the Team AMSOIL members and other racers throughout the racing series to bring viewers a behind the scenes look at offshore powerboat racing. The shows are projected to be one hour long each, with a rebroadcast of each episode. Coverage of the AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series is set to air Fox Sports Network later this year.

AMSOIL’s great sponsorship package, dedicated racing department team and superior lubricants all make it possible for Team AMSOIL Offshore Racing to achieve success! The AMSOIL Dominator Racing Oil continues to be proven as the best choice for the Mercury Racing 525 EFI engines. The Team has also proven that the absolute best oil for a Mercury dry-sump VISSM drive is AMSOIL “MCF.” Teague Custom Marine is an authorized AMSOIL dealer and offers the complete line of high performance lubricants in its store and for purchase over the phone. There are also opportunities available for you to become a dealer!

TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE PLACES 2ND AT THE HERITAGE COAST OFFSHORE GRAND PRIX IN EAST TAWAS, MICHIGAN

After a month of repairing cosmetic damage incurred as a result of a violent “stuff” during the previous race in Ocean City, Maryland, Team AMSOIL Offshore crossed the State of Michigan to compete in the first running of the Heritage Coast Offshore Grand Prix. This event was the second race of the 2012 AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series, sanctioned by OPA.

Having only eight weeks to prepare for this event, the City of East Tawas, Michigan pulled out all the stops to present a first class racing festival that involved the entire area.

Fans were able to get up close with the teams and boats at a public dry pits, view the boats in a parade and spend Saturday evening with the teams and boats in a main street block party.

The Team AMSOIL Offshore 368 Skater spent the month at Douglas Marine Skater in Douglas, Michigan for repairs, service, paint, and graphics. Once the boat arrived in East Tawas, the Team spent Friday double checking the work and systems. Saturday was testing day where Paul and Bob ran several laps on the course on Lake Huron with different set ups.

Sunday started out with conditions for the first two races with negligible wind and flat water conditions. As the day went on, the wind picked up a little which changed the race course conditions to about a two foot chop for the third and final event.

Team AMSOIL started on the pole position with PhoenixParts.com in lane two. Spectators were able to view the action close up from the half-mile-long pier at the East Tawas State Dock.

When the green flag dropped, Team AMSOIL took a slight lead and held onto it until the completion of the 8th lap when an over-rev condition from sliding in a turn put the starboard engine in “guardian” mode, resulting in reduced RPM for about a quarter of a mile.

The race was so close that this situation allowed PhoenixParts.com to get by Team AMSOIL on the 9th lap. With less than 2 laps to go, Team AMSOIL was unable to pass PhoenixParts.com to regain the lead, and finished a couple of seconds out of first place. Team AMSOIL Offshore congratulates Ray Contreras and Anthony Smith on a well run race.

In addition to presenting the AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series, AMSOIL has sponsored the race course Turn Buoys. The big AMSOIL pillows were debuted on the water at the last race.

TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE CRASHES IN OCEAN CITY MARYLAND

Team AMSOIL Offshore spent the winter rebuilding the 368 Skater after a grueling yet successful 2011 season that ended with an overall win in the nasty waters of Orange Beach, Alabama. Once the boat was completed, it made a stop at the Lake Havasu Boat Show and Desert Storm Events in Lake Havasu, Arizona and then on to Las Vegas to be on display at the AMA Monster Energy Supercross Finals Pit Party.

The boat and rigs departed from Las Vegas and made the 3,000 mile trip to Ocean City, Maryland for the first AMSOIL OPA Series Race.

The team gathered at the site and prepared the boat for the first race of the year. Saturday testing provided needed information for set ups that could be adjusted for the forecasted higher winds and seas that were predicted for Sunday's race.

The wind was blowing early on Sunday and the intensity was building as the day went on. Team AMSOIL Offshore was scheduled to run in the final main event of the day. By that time, the seas had become quite rough with constant 6 foot waves with occasional 8 to 10 footers.

Team AMSOIL was assigned lane number 2 with PhoenixParts.com on the inside and Team Infinity on the outside. When the green flag dropped, Team AMSOIL and PhoenixParts.com locked horns in a fiercely close battle that continued for the first 3 to 4 laps of the 12 lap event.

Eventually, Bob Teague and Paul Whittier were able to take the lead and began pulling away slightly as the race continued.

While in the overall lead, Team AMSOIL approached Turn 1 as three very large waves rolled past. Team AMSOIL launched off the first wave and then caught the transom on the second, resulting in a severe bow down attitude. The Team AMSOIL boat then "stuffed" into the third wave at about a 60 degree angle and disappeared completely into the Atlantic Ocean.

The boat came to an abrupt stop under the water then reversed and exited backwards ending up right side up. The port deck hatch in front of Bob was ripped off allowing the port sponson to flood. Bob and Paul were able to keep the boat afloat and get it to the crane and back on the trailer without further damage.

The 368 Skater safety systems all worked as designed. The canopy maintained its integrity and Bob and Paul were protected from the 100 MPH blast of water. In fact, Bob and Paul did not even get wet. The accident did cause some stress to the deck. Early Monday morning, Bob jumped into the hauler and took the boat 800 miles back to Douglas Marine (Skater) in Douglas, Michigan for repairs. The boat will be in perfect condition for the next race in East Tawas, Michigan on June 24th.

Team AMSOIL was awarded 3rd Place for the race which puts a little more pressure on the Team to achieve another high points championship.

We are proud to announce that AMSOIL is returning sponsor for the 2012 AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series sanctioned by OPA Racing. The 2012 AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series begins in Ocean City, MD on May 11-13.

TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE JOINS THE PIT PARTY AT MONSTER ENERGY SUPERCROSS FINALS IN LAS VEGAS

Team AMSOIL Offshore Racing just completed their final pre-season stop along the 2012 tour: the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 5, 2012.

AMSOIL is the official oil of the Supercross Series and puts up an extensive pits display at most of the motorcycle racing events. AMSOIL also has several sponsored riders and we were proud to witness the most successful Monster Energy Supercross season in the history of the GEICO/AMSOIL/Honda race team. Both of the newly-crowned champions, Justin Barcia and Eli Tomac, earned big victories in their respective divisions before going 1-2 in the East/West Shootout on Saturday night.

To really ramp up the pits display for the final Supercross event of the year, AMSOIL added the silver offshore Cat Lite boat into the mix. The race boat was a unique addition to the otherwise dirt-centric displays.

It definitely caught the attention of the crowd, who were used to seeing dirt bikes, motorcycles, racing trucks and the like throughout the pits. Bob Teague, throttleman of AMSOIL Offshore Racing, was on hand to greet fans and onlookers. Many people were delighted to take a Hero Card with a photo of the boat and receive an autograph from Teague.

The pit party area was open from 12:30pm – 6:00pm and saw heavy foot traffic come through almost the entire time. Team AMSOIL Offshore was honored to be included in AMSOIL's Supercross display and to educate some of the motorsports fans about offshore racing and the wide variety of AMSOIL applications.

At the conclusion of the pit party, the Team went inside Sam Boyd Stadium to watch the Supercross races, which began at 7:00pm. It is not very often that Teague is a spectator, and not a participator, at a racing event, but he thoroughly enjoyed the Supercross show from high above in the stadium.

AMSOIL also hosted some members of its sponsored Snowcross racing team as well as Ron Vines, Sr. and Jr, a father and son from St. Louis, Missouri who won the trip to Las Vegas and VIP passes to the Supercross Finals via a contest on AMSOIL's Facebook page.

We are proud to announce that AMSOIL is returning sponsor for the 2012 AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series sanctioned by OPA Racing. The 2012 AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series begins in Ocean City, MD on May 11-13. TEAM AMSOIL KICKS OFF THE 2012 SEASON BY DISPLAYING AT THE WEST COAST’S LARGEST PERFORMANCE BOATING EVENTS

Team AMSOIL Offshore’s winter hiatus is officially over and they made the trip to Lake Havasu City, Arizona to kick off the 2012 season in a big way. After some off-season paint work on the transom of the boat, mechanical checks to all systems, and some fresh stickers, the sleek silver Skater race boat was ready for its close up. The Team traveled to Lake Havasu for the latter part of April to attend two major high performance boating events, the Lake Havasu Boat Show and Desert Storm Performance Boat Week. Teague Custom Marine is the presenting sponsor of both events, which secured a prominent position for the Team AMSOIL boat to be on display during all festivities.

The Lake Havasu Boat Show was held April 20-22 at Windsor State Park, which is an outdoor location is situated right next to the lake. The Team AMSOIL boat was displayed in the corner position of Teague Custom Marine’s booth, where most of the foot traffic came by as they entered the show. The Lake Havasu Boat Show has been gaining momentum over the past couple of years and is well on its way to becoming the largest boat show in the southwest. Over 125 exhibitors supported the boat show. Other attractions enhanced the boat show during its 3-day run such as water ski races and a classic car show.

Casey Jones, well-known AMSOIL dealer and part of the “Oil Twins”, was also on hand with a separate AMSOIL display adjacent to the Teague Custom Marine booth.

AMSOIL Offshore Racing Team Apparel was available for purchase and Bob Teague was present to greet fans and sign Hero Cards.

After the close of the Lake Havasu Boat Show, the Team transitioned into Desert Storm, a 5-day affair that began on Wednesday, April 25. This event includes charity boat rides for kids, an outdoor street party, the Desert Storm Poker Run and a speed shootout competition. The Desert Storm Performance Boat Week is designed for the high performance powerboat enthusiast and is esteemed as one of the best poker run events in the nation.

The outdoor street party for Desert Storm on April 26 was packed with friends and fans from near and far that crammed the streets until nearly 10pm. It is estimated that over 100,000 people walked thought the mile and a quarter stretch of McCulloch Boulevard in downtown Lake Havasu City.

Thousands of people were given the opportunity to view the AMSOIL #77 Offshore Race Boat on display along with the Team’s Freightliner, and vendor booth where AMSOIL Offshore Race Team apparel and AMSOIL product was for sale. Bob Teague was on hand to take photos, greet fans, and was interviewed by several media outlets.

A live feed of the street party action was broadcast on popular boating website www.RiverDavesPlace.com. The street party featured high performance boats that would be in the event’s poker run, exotic tow rigs and vehicles, and various vendors of marine products and accessories.

Friday was the Desert Storm Charity Poker Run, which had about 150 pleasure boats signed up from around the nation. The AMSOIL boat was proudly displayed at the entrance of the Desert Storm Poker Run Village at Nautical Beachfront Resort, the official event headquarters. The boat remained in place during Saturday’s festivities as well, which included a red carpet Hollywood themed awards night.

We are proud to announce that AMSOIL is returning sponsor for the 2012 AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series sanctioned by OPA Racing. TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE WINS TOUGH BATTLE IN SOLOMONS ISLAND, MARYLAND

After Hurricane Irene caused the cancellation of the Patchogue, Long Island race, Team AMSOIL was especially anxious to get back on the race course to continue the battle for the AMSOIL OPA Championship Title. The town of Solomons, Maryland and surrounding areas were excited to have the AMSOIL OPA race series back for the third annual Solomons Offshore Grand Prix. The result was huge crowds and related activities including a parade and charity fund raiser event at the Fire Station with live bands, food, and fun all day. This also gave thousands of fans the opportunity to talk to the racers and view the race boats up close.

The Solomons race course measured about 4.6 miles running along the Board Walk on the front straight-a-way. On the back stretch, there was a chicane added creating a more challenging course. Team AMSOIL ran over 80 miles testing set ups on Saturday, looking for every half of a second to make sure they were ready for the very competitive Phoenixparts.com boat. While Team AMSOIL was testing, the Phoenixparts.com boat was having a problem with a crankshaft sensor. Team AMSOIL team member Steve Lippincott was dispatched to help the team resolve the problem. Team AMSOIL’s help resulted in the competitor’s boat being ready to run the race.

On Sunday, conditions were fairly flat with about a 7 mph wind. But the conditions changed as the race boats churned up the bay’s water. Team AMSOIL was assigned the pole position of the first start of the main event. After the parade lap, race boats formed in milling circles waiting for the pace boats to bring them up for the start. As the pace boats pick up the first start, AMSOIL took to pole position. When the green flag dropped, Team AMSOIL ran deck to deck with the other boats into the first turn.

Bob Teague and Paul Whittier carved a sharp turn at the turn 1 buoy maintaining the inside lane, continuing through turn 2, which gave enough of an advantage to maintain a tight line on turn 3 which was the right turn in the chicane. Team AMSOIL continued to run flat out maintaining the lead, with Phoenixparts.com in hot pursuit.

Course traffic presented several challenges throughout the 60 mile race. Team AMSOIL was able to stretch its lead slightly. Pushing hard to catch Team AMSOIL, Team Phoenixparts.com caught a roller in turn 5 on about the 10th lap resulting in the boat sliding sideways and flipping. Team AMSOIL was unaware that the second place boat had flipped until Paul and Bob came around on the next lap.

Team AMSOIL is happy to report that Ray Contreras and Harry Clack of Team Phoenixparts.com escaped the overturned boat through the safety hatch and were not injured. The integrity of the safety systems and the required dunker training for racers is credited for their safety. Rescue teams were on the scene immediately.

As a result of winning the Solomons Offshore Grand Prix, Team AMSOIL is the Super Cat Lite class National Champion in the AMSOIL OPA Series. Team AMSOIL has also earned more points than any boat in any class for the season which they will be recognized for by receiving the Stugots Cup Award at the OPA Annual Awards Event.

In addition to presenting the AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series, sanctioned by OPA, AMSOIL has stepped up to title sponsor the production of a new television program by the same crew that covered the SnowCross series. Cameras followed the Team AMSOIL members throughout the weekend to bring viewers a behind the scenes look at offshore powerboat racing. Coverage of the AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series is set to air on the Versus Network this November.

TEAM AMSOIL MAKES INTERNATIONAL SPLASH IN PORT HURON, MICHIGAN

Team AMSOIL Offshore racing and the AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series made their international debut in the 4th race of the season, jointly hosted by Port Huron, Michigan and Sarnia in Ontario, Canada. The race was held on the Saint Clair River, just a dozen miles north of the AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series Round 3 race hosted by Saint Clair, Michigan. Team AMSOIL was thrilled by the turnout of enthusiastic offshore racing fans from both sides of the border for the inaugural running of the International Offshore Grand Prix.

Although close in proximity to Saint Clair, the Port Huron course presented racers with a whole new set of challenges. The course was a 4-mile right hand oval, with the upriver turn tucked into Canada’s Sarnia Bay, and the downriver turn ravaged by a swift current. The upriver turn had two seawalls and multiple channel markers that demanded well considered line and lane choices, especially while multiple boats negotiated the turn simultaneously. To add to the drama, the start/finish line formed a left hand kink in the Canadian straightaway. Veteran Throttleman Bob Teague was joined by his son John Teague to handle the driving duties for the weekend, working together to negotiate the tight and tricky course.

Bob and John used the Saturday testing window effectively. First, they were able to get a lay of the land and any tricks the current would play on the surface of the course. Second, they gauged what speeds could be achieved using different setups while negotiating the obstacles and natural shape of the river. Finally, since this was the first race held in Port Huron, Bob and the Team were thrilled to introduce the Mayor of the city, Pauline Repp, to offshore powerboat racing by placing her in the driver seat for a couple laps around the river!

Following testing, the entire fleet of race boats idled over to Canada’s Sarnia Bay for a “meet and greet,” and autograph session, then idled back to the states for another meet and greet with the fans.

On race day, Team AMSOIL competed in both races under Class 1 and Super Cat Lite. Class 1 is the fastest bracket racing class, boats having unlimited power with a speed limit of 115 MPH. Racing against two supercharged catamarans with 1,600 horsepower and 2,100 horsepower, respectively, Bob and John enjoyed putting on a show while nipping on the overpowered competition’s heels. In the second race, Team AMSOIL ran unopposed in Super Cat Lite, but mixed it up with the Super Vee’s in their start. Highlights included passing the Strictly Business Fountain 35 within 6 feet of both the boat and start/finish pylon, as well as repeatedly buzzing the Canadian seawall and American breakwater at full race speed. Ultimately, the dominant AMSOIL Offshore Skater lapped the entire field of other competitors during the 75-mile final event.

After the warm reception from the city officials of both cities and the masses of fans from both countries, Team AMSOIL is excited for next year’s 2nd Annual International Offshore Grand Prix.

In addition to presenting the AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series, AMSOIL has stepped up to title sponsor the production of a new television program by the same crew that covered the SnowCross series. Cameras followed the Team AMSOIL members throughout the weekend to bring viewers a behind the scenes look at offshore powerboat racing. TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE SCORES A PODIUM FINISH AT ST. CLAIR

Team AMSOIL engaged in a fierce battle for first place in the 17th Annual St. Clair River Classic presented by the Blue Water Offshore Racing Association. This was the second stop of the 2011 AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series sanctioned by OPA.

The entire town of St. Clair, Michigan is involved in putting on this huge festival event. It is estimated that the attendance exceeded 125,000 spectators and fans lining the River’s edge, mile-long festival. AMSOIL had a huge presence as the title series sponsor with the AMSOIL Offshore Team and AMSOIL display booths placed at the main entrance to the event. The Team also debuted a new T-shirt design for sale, which was very popular with race fans at the site.

Preparations were made on Friday on the AMSIOL Skater to get ready for Saturday’s Test sessions. Team AMSOIL ran nearly 100 miles testing to resolve an engine guardian problem. During the test sessions, one of Team AMSOIL’s main competitors, Team PhoenixParts.com blew an engine due to an oil pressure problem. Team AMSOIL offered owner Raymond Contreras the use of its spare engine so they could make the race. Team AMSOIL assisted the Team PheonixParts.com crew in changing the engine.

The Cat Lite class raced in the main event on Sunday which was the last race of the day. Being that Team AMSOIL won the last race in Sunny Isles beach, the starting order was reversed and Team AMSOIL was assigned the outside lane. When the green flag went up, a 65 mile battle followed with Team AMSOIL closely behind Team PhoenixParts.com. The boats were very evenly matched but the lead boat had the advantage with controlling the racing line. Team AMSOIL made several attempts to get around the lead boat. Pulling up close to Team PhoenixParts.com in turns 3 and 4, Team AMSOIL hooked the boat in the turn, sliding sideways and narrowly avoiding a flip. Paul Whittier and Bob Teague were able to keep the boat from going over but were concerned that the skegs had been ripped off the drives. Accordingly Team AMSOIL proceeded with a little caution to the next turn not knowing if the boat would turn at all. As it ended up, the boat was OK and full speed racing was resumed, but not in enough time to catch the lead boat before the end of the race.

Team AMSOIL congratulates Raymond Contreras and Harry Clack on a fine race and is looking forward to another great battle between the two Skaters.

Coverage of the AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series is set to air on the Versus Network this November.

TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE SWEEPS SUNNY ISLES BEACH SEASON OPENER AND BIMINI ENDURANCE RUN

The first stop of the newly christened AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series sanctioned by OPA was Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, just north of exotic Miami. This year marked the 4th annual running of the Sunny Isles Beach Offshore Challenge and the Don Aronow Memorial Miami, FL to Bimini, Bahamas and back endurance record race. Team AMSOIL Offshore made the annual trek from the West Coast with its 368 Douglas Marine Skater to defend its standing Super Cat Lite class record.

The weekend started off quickly, with the AMSOIL Offshore crew preparing the boat on Thursday for the Miami to Bimini record run on Friday. Weather conditions leading up to the race seemed to have limited effect on the water conditions of the 53-mile stretch of Atlantic Ocean to Bimini. Many race teams relied on word of mouth condition reports from pleasure boats and race organizers and the reports were consistent: mild water suitable for high speed. Throttleman Bob Teague and backup Driver John Teague decided to set the boat up to hopefully average greater than 108 MPH and break Team AMSOIL’s current record.

On Friday, the hot and humid Florida weather proved to be a fickle adversary. The wind came up from the southeast mid morning and presented the Bimini run racers with a 3-4 foot groundswell with 2 foot rolling bumps spread on top. What was expected to be a wide open calm water run quickly turned into a full on rough water battle, with seas nearing the intensity of last year’s record run. At the start, Team AMSOIL took off flanked by Twisted Metal, a supercharged Fountain, and Lamborghini of Miami, a supercharged Skater. Both of Team AMSOIL’s class competitors were not at the start. Team Infinity was forced to bow out with steering issues, and Team Loriblu would make the start late after some frantic last-minute work. Twisted Metal missed their setup and could not keep pace with Team AMSOIL and Lamborghini of Miami would be forced to stop with mechanical issues on the way to Bimini. Bob and John Teague piloted their silver Skater on a flawless run over the 106-mile course, finishing 1st overall. Their time was 1:07:15 for an average of approximately 95 MPH, about 3 minutes faster than 2nd place Loriblu. Team AMSOIL has a perfect 4 for 4 class win record on the Bimini Ocean Challenge run.

On Saturday, Team AMSOIL forwent water testing to service some of the race boat’s components and pass safety certifications. This season, the AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series requires all canopied race teams to a dunk and swim test before they are allowed to race. Bob Teague, Paul Whittier, and John Teague all spent time at the community pool passing the full regiment of safety tests and procedure reviews.

Regular Team AMSOIL veteran Driver Paul Whittier was back in the boat for Sunday to race in choppy conditions that tested racers’ cornering abilities. Team AMSOIL lined up to start the 11 lap race over a 7-mile rectangle sandwiched between Team PhoenixParts.com and Team Infinity. At the drop of the flag, Bob and Paul were squeezed to the outside and decided to chop the throttles and pass behind PhoenixParts.com for the inside lane at the first turn. After three laps of hard racing and multiple lane and lead changes, Team AMSOIL was able to gain and hold some ground over PhoenixParts.com. Bob and Paul were then able to set the pace and walk away to a second team victory for the weekend.

In addition to becoming the presenting sponsor of the AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series, AMSOIL has stepped up to title sponsor the production of a new television program by the same crew that covered the SnowCross series. Cameras followed the Team AMSOIL members throughout the weekend to bring viewers a behind the scenes look at offshore powerboat racing. Coverage of the AMSOIL Offshore Powerboat Series is set to air on the Versus Network this November.

Team AMSOIL thanks Larry Goldman and Brad Schoenwald for their work producing the Bimini Endurance run and would like to challenge more race and high performance pleasure boaters alike to leave the shore behind to race in the open ocean next year.

TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE #77 SETS THE PACE AT THE POPRA LAKE HAVASU OFFSHORE GRAND PRIX

Team AMSOIL Offshore Racing just returned from the Pacific Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (POPRA) Lake Havasu Offshore Grand Prix in Lake Havasu, Arizona. This two-day race event took place on April 8 & 9, in conjunction with the 20th Annual Lake Havasu Boat Show, April 8-10. The racing was a welcome addition to Lake Havasu Marine Association’s boat show, and rounded out a full display of boats and performance accessories at the outdoor Windsor Beach venue.

The Team was able to get some testing time in on Thursday with Bob Teague on the throttles and substitute driver John Teague at the wheel. The wind on Thursday afternoon picked up to provide some rough seas and a very challenging experience during docking and craning the boat out of the water.

POPRA utilized the heat racing format for this year’s event, with two separate 6-lap heat races on Friday, and one final 12-lap heat on Saturday. Spectators were able to easily view the racing action from the shores of Windsor Beach, adjacent to the Havasu Boat Show.

The desert weather was inconsistent and unpredictable during the weekend with a mixture of cool temperatures, wind and a sudden thunderstorm. On Saturday, the race boats were underway on the course and had completed about one lap when a giant lightning bolt struck over the lake, causing a black flag condition. The boats immediately exited the course and tied up at the dock to wait until the conditions and visibility improved. About an hour later, the race was re-started and run until completion.

The Team’s Cat Lite competitors in the running were In The Red Racing and Brunner/Horizon Motorsports. Team AMSOIL established a position of dominance early on in each heat and was able to keep a considerable lead over the other boats in its class.

Team AMSOIL Offshore won 1st place in each of the 3 heats and also won the Lake Havasu Offshore Grand Prix overall. This event marks Bob Teague’s 38th season of offshore racing and the completion of the first offshore Cat Lite race for John Teague, quite a feat for the father and son team. John is a regular Team AMSOIL crew member and previously had only driven the race boat during a couple of testing sessions.

Team AMSOIL was pleased to be part of the race festivities and support POPRA, which Bob Teague has raced with since the 1970s, and has served as the President of the club for many years during the 1990s. The camaraderie in this racing community was evident and a great show was put on for the race fans. The Team looks forward to racing in Lake Havasu City again.

Team AMSOIL captured virtually every title possible in the Cat Lite / Super Cat Class during the 2010 racing season. Team AMSOIL is also the holder of the OSS World Endurance record for Miami to Bimini and back, and captured the POPRA World Kilo Record in its class with an official average speed of 131.981mph.

The Team is extremely proud to announce the continued support of AMSOIL Inc.

It is not very often that Teague is a spectator, and not a participator, at a racing event, but he thoroughly enjoyed the Supercross show from high above in the stadium.
