TEAM AMSOIL WINS SUPER BOAT INTERNATIONAL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AT FINALE IN CLEARWATER BEACH
The final event of the Super Boat International Series was held at Clearwater Beach, Florida which was a huge event that drew record crowds and one of the biggest spectator fleets of the year. An estimated 2000 plus spectator boats lined the course while tens of thousands of spectators watched from the beaches and Pier 60.

Team AMSOIL Offshore participated in the official news conference held on Thursday at the Island Way Grill. Several TV stations and newspaper reporters attended along with the Mayor of Clearwater. The AMSOIL Skater Supercat race boat was on display in front of the event.
Team AMSOIL participated in the AMSOIL Direct Jobber convention held at the Sheraton on Sand Key. The AMSOIL Offshore race boat was on display on the beach for the Friday activities available for everyone to view.
The Team relocated to the dry pits located on the downtown Clearwater water front at Coachman Park on Saturday morning. The boat was prepared and tested on Saturday in the Gulf of Mexico to select the perfect set up for the main event on Sunday.
Team AMSOIL driver Paul Whittier and throttleman Bob Teague, along with the crew, attended the AMSOIL banquet on Saturday night at the Sheraton. Paul Whittier, Bob Teague and Terry Rinker were recognized at the event and were presented with personalized custom watches.

The conditions on Sunday were similar to the test conditions on Saturday. Team AMSOIL raced in the main event which was the second race of the day. During the other races on Sunday, Bob Teague worked as a commentator on the radio show which was broadcast on the area’s AM radio stations and streamed live on the World Wide Web.

Team AMSOIL lined up in the second start of the Final race along with a number of boats including the Vee Extreme class. The Team AMSOIL #77 Skater performed flawlessly during the race, passing all of the boats in the starting group including many with significantly more horsepower. Team AMSOIL went the distance to receive the checkered flag in spite of having a battery post break four laps from the end of the race which rendered the trim systems inoperative. Bob Teague and Paul Whittier made the necessary adjustments and finished the race at full speed.

During the awards ceremony, Al and Alan Amatuzio, along with many of the AMSOIL family and staff accompanied the Team to the podium to receive the trophy and flags. Al and Alan Amatuzio were given the checkered flags won at the event.

The win at the Clearwater Beach event clinched the Super Boat International National Championship for Team AMSOIL Offshore Racing. Team AMSOIL has already won the 2009 High Points Championships in the Offshore Super Series, Triple Crown, and OPA series.

The AMSOIL Dominator Racing Oil continues to be proven as the best choice for the Mercury Racing 525 EFI engines. We are seeing no signs of engine wear using the AMSOIL 15W-50 Dominator Racing Oil. Additionally, Team AMSOIL continues to prove that AMSOIL MCF is the right choice for the Mercury VISSM Super Speed Master dry-sumped drives. The company’s great sponsorship package, dedicated racing department team and superior lubricants all make it possible for Team AMSOIL Offshore Racing to achieve success! TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE WINS BACK TO BACK OFFSHORE SUPER SERIES NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
One week after moving into the first place points position in the Super Boat International series in Morehead City, NC, Team AMSOIL traveled to Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri to compete in the Offshore Super Series 2009 National Championships finale. Going into this race, Team AMSOIL had fought its way to a slight one point advantage in the Offshore Super Series (OSS) season point’s battle. What this meant is that Team AMSOIL would have to win the race in order to secure its second consecutive OSS National Championship.
Bob Teague and Paul Whittier tested the boat extensively, timing laps on Saturday to find the best set up. In all, nearly 150 miles were covered during testing on the course. Bob also throttled a boat in the Pro Am Race in the P2 class with a local friend, Roger Neighbors, which provided more experience on the course.
The race format was established by OSS as two heats of about 45 miles each. At race time on Sunday, the conditions had changed a little with more wind from a different direction than Saturday. Team AMSOIL #77 elected to stay with the Saturday set up which proved to be not as good as the day before. When the green flag dropped, Team MHQ Financial in their 388 Skater took a slight lead. During the first heat, the 388 boat with the advantage of a better line and speed finished 9 seconds ahead of Team AMSOIL. During the break, Team AMSOIL worked to change its set up of the 368 Skater with a propeller change and balance adjustment.

When the green flag dropped for the second heat, Team AMSOIL and MHQ Financial again locked horns in a deck to deck battle. After a couple of laps, Team AMSOIL gained the advantage at turn 6 and 7 and continued to stretch the lead slightly. Bob Teague and Paul Whittier knew in order to win the Championship that they must beat the 388 boat by more than 9 seconds in the second heat. Looking in their mirrors at Team MHQ Financial’s position kept Team AMSOIL on their game with no room for even the slightest error. Paul and Bob continued to nail the turns and carry good speed down the straights and eventually crossed the finish line 12 seconds ahead of the second place MHQ Financial Skater. The two heat times are averaged which gave Team AMSOIL the overall win by a mere 3 seconds after 90 plus miles of racing.

In between races, Bob Teague alternated with Martin Sanborn as a commentator on the live TV broadcast of American Powerboat Television which was streamed on AmericanPowerboat.tv, TalkOffshore.com and two local FM radio stations.

After starting the OSS season with a disappointing 5th place finish in Biloxi, MI due to a one lap penalty for damaging a turn buoy, Team AMSOIL #77 is proud to have had a perfect balance during the season in its fight back to the top position.

On the way from Lake of the Ozarks to the SBI season finale in Clearwater Florida, Bob Teague stopped by to visit his Mother and Sister in Atlanta to present the flag and trophy to his mother, Carol. Photos were taken at Studio Chambers owned by Parlee and Don Chambers (Bob’s sister and brother-in-law).

With the win at Lake of the Ozarks, Team AMSOIL has won its second consecutive National and High Points title in the Offshore Super Series, and is currently unbeatable in the Super Boat International points chase. Already secured for the 2009 season are the OPA Cat Lite Championship and 1st place in the Geico Triple Crown Series.
The AMSOIL Dominator Racing Oil continues to be proven as the best choice for the Mercury Racing 525 EFI engines. We are seeing no signs of engine wear using the AMSOIL 15W-50 Dominator Racing Oil. TEAM AMSOIL WINS IN MOREHEAD CITY, NORTH CAROLINA AT
THE CRYSTAL COAST SUPER BOAT GRAND PRIX
Team AMSOIL Offshore traveled from New York City to compete in the 4th Annual running of the Crystal Coast Super Boat Grand Prix. The dry pits for this event were located in the middle of downtown New Bern and also included a car show featuring numerous rare and modified hot rods, muscle cars, choppers, and exotic cars. The spectators and racing fans were plentiful during the entire event.
Boats were craned in by the Port of North Carolina at Morehead City using massive cranes normally used for loading and unloading containers off ships. The Viewing area for the race was on the Port docks where bleachers were set up next to a VIP area. From the viewing area, the entire 5.4 mile race course could be viewed.

Team AMSOIL tested on Saturday after rebuilding a carrier assembly on the left transom assembly. On Sunday, there were two races. The Manufacturers’ Production Classes and Stock Outboard race started at 12 noon. The faster and larger boats raced at 2 PM. Team AMSOIL was assigned to the third start in the 2 PM race, paired up with the War Paint Cat 750 boat. Team AMSOIL raced a fast and consistent race moving up through the pack of boats that started in the second start. The Cat Lite’s progress was hampered about three-fourths through the 84-mile race when a blade snapped off one of the propellers.

Fortunately, by this point in the race, Team AMSOIL had won its class and War Paint had retired due to mechanical problems.

The win at the Crystal Coast Super Boat Grand Prix puts Team AMSOIL Offshore #77 in an unbeatable position in the Super Boat International points chase. Team AMSOIL Offshore Racing is currently in the lead in point standings in OPA, OSS, SBI and the Triple Crown Series.

TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE WINS IN PATCHOGUE, NEW YORK
One year after a tragic racing accident at Patchogue, New York, the community pulled together to put on a spectacular racing festival event: The OPA Battle in the Bay. This first-class event had participating entities included fire departments and police departments from several neighboring communities.
The weekend festivities were kicked off with a huge main street party with race boats on display from 4 PM until 11 PM. An estimated 20,000 people were on hand to view the boats and talk to the racers. The Team AMSOIL Skater was prominently displayed in the middle of the party.
With Hurricane Bill approaching the Northeast, it was anticipated that the racing conditions were going to be rough. Water conditions on Friday were quite choppy in the Great South Bay. By Saturday morning, conditions began to calm which necessitated the Team AMSOIL crew to change the set up on the boat back to a calmer water configuration. As it turned out, it was a good move. The testing on Saturday proved that the boat would be competitive if the conditions held. The conditions were slightly calmer on Sunday and the Team AMSOIL boat was entered in the last two main event races.

Team AMSOIL Offshore Racing ran in the race with the P-1 class boats and exhibited a dominating performance. The next race produced a deck to deck race for Team AMSOIL #77 with the highly competitive Motley Crew #00 team in their 368 Skater. The Crew drew the pole position lane with Team AMSOIL in lane two. The two Skaters ran deck to deck swapping positions a couple of times until Team AMSOIL pulled on the inside lane on the front straightaway of the 5 1/2 mile course. As Team AMSOIL was nearing on the inside of the Crew, a guardian condition in their left motor caused them to veer sharply to the left toward Bob Teague and Paul Whittier in the Team AMSOIL boat. Bob and Paul were able to maneuver the boat in order to avoid a collision and continued in the pass of the Motley Crew boat. Team AMSOIL continued holding onto first place for the balance of the race.

The Patchogue race was the second in the Geico Triple Crown series. Team AMSOIL’s win at this event resulted in an unbeatable first place position for the 2009 Cat Lite Triple Crown title. Currently, Team AMSOIL #77 is also in the points lead in the OSS and OPA sanctioning organizations, and is tied for first place in Super Boat International.
The AMSOIL Dominator Racing Oil continues to be proven as the best choice for the Mercury Racing 525 EFI engines. The Team has also proven that the absolute best oil for a Mercury dry-sump VISSM drive is AMSOIL “MCF.” After two years of racing, Team AMSOIL’s VISSM drives are still in new condition. The company’s great sponsorship package, dedicated racing department team and superior lubricants all make it possible for Team AMSOIL Offshore Racing to achieve success! TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE #77 WINS IN ST. CLAIR, MICHIGAN
On the first weekend of August, Team AMSOIL Offshore competed in the very popular 17th running of the St. Clair River Classic Offshore Race. The event marked the first ever joint race with the OPA and OSS organizations in 2009. The town of St. Clair closes the Michigan State Highway M-29 to provide the perfect location a festival along the park and race course. The festival boasts a full blown carnival with rides and attractions, plus a few dozen street vendors selling food and novelty items. It was a huge success as nearly 100,000 people attended the three day event in St. Clair, Michigan. Both Friday and Saturday night ended with free concerts featuring Eddie Money and Josh Gracin as the highlights of the evening. Team AMSOIL’s prominent pit location included a full display of AMSOIL products and apparel. AMSOIL dealers staffing the booth were busy all three days providing technical information while Team AMSOIL Offshore crew members prepared the boat for testing and racing.

The test conditions on Saturday were unusually rough for the St. Clair River due to strong winds blowing directly up the river. Paul Whittier and Bob Teague made several adjustments from the normal setup so the boat would be competitive if the conditions were similar on race day.
The wind changed directions on Sunday to a more westerly direction resulting in calmer conditions which required further adjustments to balance, CG, and propeller pitch based off previous experience at St. Clair Races.

Sunday's racing was fast, furious and safe with no accidents or rollovers reported. Team AMSOIL competed in the main event starting in the number two lane with Team Propstop on the pole. When the green flag dropped, a deck to deck battle ensued with the 388 Skater of Team Propstop. On the third lap, as Team AMSOIL attempted to pass on the inside lane at turn 1, Team Propstop hooked into the path of Team AMSOIL. Team AMSOIL got caught in the rooster tail and had to pull back. The deluge of water caused one of Team AMSOIL’s engines to go into a “guardian mode” with reduced power. Bob Teague was able to get the engine restarted after three tries, but by this time Team Propstop had gained about a 20 second lead. Team AMSOIL was able to make up the deficit in 3 laps’ time and was again knocking on the door of Team Propstop. Team AMSOIL stayed on the outside lane at turn 1 and 2 and followed Team Propstop closely down the course to turn 3 and 4. At this point, as soon as Propstop started to turn, they left a lane open. Bob Teague and Paul Whittier crossed to the inside and hooked the 368 Skater tightly around turn buoy 4 at high speed and gained a two boat advantage coming out of the turn. The planned move paid off as Team AMSOIL then continued to stretch out the lead for the remaining laps until winning the checkered flag. The winning Cat Lite #77 Team AMSOIL boat was paraded in front of the huge crowds proudly displaying the checkered flag.

The win at St. Clair established Team AMSOIL in first place in the points chase in both the OPA and OSS circuits.

TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE IS AWARDED THE SILVER CUP AT THE DETROIT APBA GOLD CUP RACES
JULY 10TH, 11TH, AND 12TH
Team AMSOIL Offshore was invited by the American Power Boat Association (APBA) to compete in the offshore heat races conducted in conjunction with the 100th running of the Detroit Gold Cup Unlimited Hydroplane Race sponsored by Chrysler Jeep Superstores. The three day event started with testing on Friday. There were three exciting heat races on Saturday and two final heats on Sunday, in front of thousands of fans.

Team AMSOIL put on a great show battling with the other offshore catamarans on the tight 2 ½ mile, pear-shaped course. The tightest turn was in front of the grandstands and gave the fans a close look at some deck to deck racing.

AMSOIL Dealers were provided a premium display booth area that was staffed by Bill & Kathy Bernethy, Scot & Delores Brauer, and Berry Mugridge. The AMSOIL dealers were busy all day on Saturday and Sunday promoting products and providing technical information while the AMSOIL Offshore race boat was creating excitement.

At the awards, Team AMSOIL was presented with the perpetual Silver Cup where Bob Teague’s and Paul Whittier’s names will be added to the long list of previous recipients.
Next stop is the annual Saint Clair Offshore race on August 1st and 2nd. This will be a grand event with the merging of the OSS and OPA racing organizations. Team AMSOIL will have a product booth in its dry pit location staffed by AMSOIL Dealers at this event. The city is expecting to draw nearly 100,000 spectators this year.

TEAM AMSOIL BEATS ITS OWN ENDURANCE RECORD FROM MIAMI TO BIMINI AND BACK AND WINS ANOTHER 1ST PLACE IN SUNNY ISLES
The AMSOIL Offshore Racing Team set the Official Endurance Record sanctioned by OSS in 2008 in the Cat Lite Class from Miami, Florida to Bimini, Bahamas and back. This year, the team returned with a mission of defending and beating its own record in the 106 mile long race. On Friday, June 12th, Team AMSOIL #77 did just that by running the endurance event in 59 minutes and 40 seconds, which was a little over 5 minutes faster than last year’s record. The official average speed of the Team was recorded at 106.8174 MPH.

To further show the endurance and reliability afforded by using AMSOIL lubricants, Team AMSOIL participated in Saturday’s Thunderboat Rally from Sunny Isles Beach to Key Largo and back. The Team received a lot of recognition from other participants and fans as a front runner in the long range event.
The boat was entered in the Sunny Isles Offshore Challenge on Sunday. Team AMSOIL won the Cat Lite class easily in the wind blown Atlantic Ocean waters in front of fans on Beach and in the row of mega hotels along the front straightaway. The start-finish line was located at the famous Trump International Beach Resort Hotel.

During the 3 day event, over 350 race miles were logged on the Team AMSOIL Skater with no problems of any kind.
Joining Team AMSOIL for the weekend as an honorary team member was the current Miss Florida USA, Anastagia Pierre. We are grateful for Anastagia’s support of the AMSOIL Offshore Racing Team and for the sport of offshore racing.

Team AMSOIL captured virtually every title possible in the Cat Lite Class during the 2008 racing season. The Team is the current OPA Cat Lite High Points Champion, OSS National and High Points Cat Lite Champion, and SBI Super Cat World Champion. Team AMSOIL is also the holder of the OSS World Endurance record for Miami to Bimini and back, and captured the POPRA World Kilo Record in its class with an official average speed of 131.981mph.

TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE #77 WINS IN OCEAN CITY, MD
Team AMSOIL attended the OPA season opener in Ocean City, Maryland which is the first race of the Geico Triple Crown series. Saturday testing required several setup changes including switching gear ratios to accommodate the rough conditions of the Atlantic Ocean.
After some severe weather, the conditions on Sunday were even rougher, presenting challenging conditions for the offshore teams. Team AMSOIL started in the first start of the main event with the other top class catamarans. Team AMSOIL’s arch rival in the Northeast, Motley Crew, was unable to make the start, which enabled Team AMSOIL to run unchallenged in the Super Cat Lite class. Team AMSOIL ran hard anyway, finishing fifth overall against the higher class Turbine powered, Extreme, and Super Cat 750 boats.
During the race, the severe sea conditions provided for a lot of super air time. Team AMSOIL’s Skater performed flawlessly, enduring the brutal conditions. This was a great run to prepare for the upcoming attempt to beat our own endurance record from Miami to Bimini and back, which will be attempted on June 12th off Sunny Isles Beach, Florida.
After the Sunny Isles record run and race, Team AMSOIL will be headed to Sarasota, Florida to compete in the annually well attended race on the 4th of July weekend.
The AMSOIL Dominator Racing Oil continues to be proven as the best choice for the Mercury Racing 525 EFI engines. Oil tests conducted after races continue to indicate minimal engine wear. This oil allowed Team AMSOIL to log over 4000 racing miles on its Mercury Racing engines last year with not one engine problem. The Team has also proven that the absolute best oil for a Mercury dry-sump VISSM drive is AMSOIL “MCF.” After two years of racing, Team AMSOIL’s VISSM drives are still in new condition.

Team AMSOIL captured virtually every title possible in the Cat Lite Class during the 2008 racing season. TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE #77 DOMINATES IN LAKE CUMBERLAND, KY
The AMSOIL Offshore Racing Team led both of its races from start to finish in the fierce OSS Cat Lite competition in both Cat Lite heats held at Lake Cumberland, KY on Sunday, May 10th. The Team AMSOIL 368 Skater was re-fitted with new Mercury 525 EFI engines and components just prior to the trip from California.
The new equipment was tested on Saturday by Bob Teague and Paul Whittier logging over 160 miles trying different set up combinations. The extensive testing combined with the newly prepared boat paid off by a dominant performance during the Sunday’s two races in which the finish points of each race were combined to determine the final winner.
Team AMSOIL started on the pole position in each Cat Lite heat and battled in beginning of each race with Team Propstop through the first couple of turns until gaining the lead. In each race, Team AMSOIL continued to extend the lead. At the end of the second race, Team AMSOIL established a lead on the rest of the fleet of nearly one-half lap.
This was the first offshore race ever held at Lake Cumberland. The spectators loved the event and Team AMSOIL was very popular with the fans as well as a number of AMSOIL dealers in the area.
Team AMSOIL credits the winning performance and reliability of its boat to the outstanding lubricants used in the engines and all systems in the boat. The new 15W50 Dominator Racing Oil allowed Team AMSOIL to log over 4000 racing miles on its Mercury Racing engines last year with not one engine problem.
Team AMSOIL is now headed to Ocean City, Maryland to compete in the first race of the Triple Crown Series on May 31st. As the defending champion of the Triple Crown Series, the Team intends to keep its title in the Northeast circuit.

Team AMSOIL #77 OVERCOMES ADVERSITIES WITH NEAR-HITS AND SOME MISSES AT THE OSS SEASON OPENER
Team AMSOIL Offshore Racing made the trek to Biloxi, Mississippi for the Offshore Super Series (OSS) Smokin’ the Sound Biloxi Offshore Kickoff, held March 26-29. OSS estimates that about 45,000 spectators enjoyed the races by watching from the beaches or hotels that line the Gulf Coast strip. Local radio station 104.9 FM broadcasted the racing coverage with the popular Talk Offshore radio show all afternoon. The races were also filmed for television and will air on Fox Sports Network later this year.
The road to Biloxi was not an easy one, as the Team had to complete many preparations prior to arrival at the race site, including complying with the new OSS regulations for 2009 which require each race boat to have a class-specific color painted on the tips of the sponsons. The AMSOIL boat debuted its flashy new look with the tips of both of its sponsons painted a bright red, the color that designates a Cat Lite entry. Team AMSOIL’s crew also went through and thoroughly inspected both outdrives, which have been running AMSOIL MCF oil all last season. Virtually no wear was detected on the internal drive components after 100 hours of racing.
The OSS racing at Biloxi followed a Heat Racing Format for the first time in the series. Seven separate races were held on Sunday, March 29 since Saturday’s conditions were too rough to race, so racing commenced around Noon and ended around 5pm. The Cat Lite class raced in two separate heats, each consisting of 4 laps. Cat Lite proved to be the most popular class at the Biloxi event, with a total of 6 boats entered to race.
During the first heat, the AMSOIL boat was hit by the Popeye’s boat on the first straightaway. After this minor collision during the mad dash for the first pin, AMSOIL was left in last place. With the shorter race format, it was difficult to make up all of the lost time, so the Team finished 3rd in the first heat. The second heat provided to be just as manic for Bob Teague and Paul Whittier. During the second lap, Team AMSOIL was pinched at the turn and had to run through the rooster tail of Team Prop Stop, while simultaneously running over the turn buoy. AMSOIL was able to grasp the 2nd place finish position in the second heat, but due to being penalized a lap for taking out the turn buoy, the Team had a final finish position of 5th place. In spite of the final outcome, Team AMSOIL put on a great show for the spectators with the tight racing format.
The Team is extremely proud to announce the continued support of AMSOIL Inc. TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE RACING CAT LITE WORLD RECORD HOLDER -131.981 MPH AT SALTON SEA
Team AMSOIL #77 made the journey to Salton Sea in the Southern California Desert for the POPRA Salton Sea Speed Week Kilo Event. The event was held Thursday, December 4 through Sunday, December 7. Although not a usual destination for driver Paul Whittier and throttleman Bob Teague, The Sea has been host to many races and kilo runs over the decades. Representatives from the city welcomed the event and positive press that it would bring to the Salton Sea Recreation Area, once a top destination for boating, swimming and family fun in the late 1950s.
About a dozen teams came out with high hopes that the unique environment would prove to be the ideal setting for squeezing every last drop of speed out of their boats. The combination of below sea level air density, extremely high salinity in the water, cool desert air, and a perfectly undisturbed body of water made the perfect formula for world record-breaking speeds. Unfortunately, the smooth as glass water conditions were not the best for the highest offshore boat speeds. Kevin Cooper, President of POPRA, explained that the setting was also very safe for hosting kilo runs since the only other boats on the water during a participant’s speed run were the rescue boats.
The Team utilized Thursday as a test day and unfortunately ran aground near the crane in an area that was not properly dredged. This occurrence brought on many unexpected challenges in order to have the boat in top shape for its speed runs on Saturday. Most of Friday was spent in the dry pits area doing extensive repairs to the bottom running surface of the race boat. Boats sanctioned under the Southern California Speed Boat Club were able to make kilo runs on Friday. The course was open for POPRA offshore entries on Saturday and Sunday.
Team AMSOIL’s first run on Saturday proved to be good enough to break the previous world speed record for Cat Lite, which was 126.703 mph. The Team tried various propellers and set-ups throughout the day in attempt to better their speed. On a run towards the end of the day, Team AMSOIL was successful in upping their own speed record. By the end of Saturday, the new speed record stood at 131.319 mph. On Sunday, Team AMSOIL made several more runs and was successful once more at breaking their own speed record. The final official POPRA World Kilo Speed Record was set at 131.981 mph, certified by APBA/UIM. This speed is the best average of the Team’s north to south pass and consecutive south to north pass. The Team made a one-way pass of nearly 133 mph but ran a little slower on the back up run because of a minor deviation on the course angle.
Team AMSOIL Offshore Racing has had a near perfect racing season and can now add POPRA World Speed Record Holder to its list of accomplishments in the Cat Lite category. The Team has earned the 2008 titles of SBI World Champion, Cat Lite High Points Champion in the OPA Racing Circuit, Winner of the Geico Triple Crown, Offshore Super Series National Champion and High Points Champion.
The AMSOIL Offshore Race Team continues to have great results with the new 15W50 Dominator Racing engine oil and the array of AMSOIL lubricants used in every component and system in the race boat. The team thanks AMSOIL for its great sponsorship package and attributes its racing success to the superior lubricants it offers. TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE WINS IN POINT PLEASANT CLINCHING 1ST PLACE IN THE GEICO TRIPLE CROWN SERIES
Two weeks after competing in Patchogue, New York, Team AMSOIL clinched the championship in the Geico / OPA Triple Crown Series by a dominant win in the rough Atlantic Ocean waters off the beaches of Point Pleasant, New Jersey. The first race of the 3-race series was in Ocean City, Maryland which Team AMSOIL won. The second race was held in Patchogue, New York. This race was called short due to an unfortunate fatal crash of the Aero Express boat. Originally, Team AMSOIL was declared the winner of the shortened event by the official OPA scorer. Later, a review of video from a different vantage point revealed that it was a very close call between Team AMSOIL and Motley Crew. The organization appealed to Team AMSOIL’s sportsmanship and awarded the win of the second race to Motley Crew. Resulting from this was that the two top teams were locked into a tie going into the third race. Team AMSOIL only had a slight overall time advantage.
Bob Teague and Paul Whittier arrived in New Jersey knowing that they had to win to secure the title. Tropical Storm Hanna ripped through Point Pleasant on Saturday before the race preventing Team AMSOIL from testing. Knowing that the seas would still be rough and confused on Sunday, the AMSOIL crew changed gear ratios and prepared the boat for battle in the rough seas. On Sunday morning, the wind direction had changed to an offshore direction which resulted in the seas being only slightly calmer. The AMSOIL crew changed the drive ratio one more time and loaded several propellers in the truck so a last minute change could be made. After observing the first race, Bob and Paul decided to go up one pitch in propeller to carry speed on the back stretch and add a little more weight to the bow to control the boat on the rougher front leg of the course.
When the green flag dropped, Team AMSOIL and Motley Crew were running very close to each other and getting some spectacular air off the 5 to 8 foot seas. After a lap and a half, Bob Teague found the ideal settings for the Team AMSOIL Skater and began pulling away from the Motley Crew. Both the lead boats were running as hard as possible in the conditions at hand knowing that the championship was on the line. Doing everything possible to catch Team AMSOIL, Motley Crew got seriously out of shape and landed on the side which ended up damaging one of their transom assemblies. As the race went on, the Motley Crew boat also developed a water leak in their cooling system as a result of the constant pounding from the rough water. Team AMSOIL continued to stretch the lead and eventually lapped the wounded Motley Crew boat.
To make matters more interesting, what was originally advertised as a 5 mile course was really 7 miles. Fortunately, Team AMSOIL added an extra 10 gallons of fuel prior to the race for good measure. Paul and Bob knew they could go 110 miles if possible but may not make the minimum required boat weight at the end of the race. When Team AMSOIL returned to the crane to be weighed after the race, the boat weighed in at 8,380 pounds, only 30 pounds more than the required minimum of 8,350 pounds.
The Team AMSOIL boat was popular in the town and race boat parade. One of the local families, Andrea Bowne and her 6 year old daughter, rode in the parade with the team. Then Andrea made custom Team AMSOIL cakes that were delivered to the awards banquet for all teams to enjoy. It was a nice ending to the race weekend and three race series.
TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE RACING DOMINATES IN ST. CLAIR
One weekend after attending AMSOIL’s 35th Anniversary celebration in Duluth, Minnesota, the AMSOIL Offshore Racing Team traveled to St. Clair, Michigan to compete in the annual OPA St. Clair River Classic offshore race held on the St. Clair River. Tens of thousands of fans packed the town and the shores to watch the big boats compete up close. During the first test session on Saturday, Team AMSOIL apparently struck a submerged object in the river and destroyed a propeller. Because the propeller that was destroyed was one that would have been likely used in Sunday’s race, the rest of the day was spent trying alternative set ups and timing the boat around the race course. Bob Teague and Paul Whittier logged over 160 miles testing to perfect the set up, speed and handling of the AMSOIL Offshore Race Boat. Practice on the race course was timed to achieve quick and consistent lap times around the 6.3 mile course.
The extensive testing definitely paid off when the green flag dropped on Sunday. This would be another highly competitive battle in the Super Cat Lite class between the Motley Crew Team and Team AMSOIL. AMSOIL took the lead on the first straightaway and continued to extend the lead on the fleet throughout the entire race.
The win in Saint Clair extended Team AMSOIL’s OPA points lead. Currently, Team AMSOIL is in first place in the points chase in OSS, OPA, and tied for first in POPRA.
The AMSOIL Offshore Race Team continues to have great results with the new 15W50 Dominator Racing engine oil and the array of AMSOIL lubricants used in every component and system in the race boat. TEAM AMSOIL #77 EARNS ANOTHER PODIUM FINISH AT SARASOTA, FL
The AMSOIL Offshore Racing Team traveled to Sarasota, Florida to compete in the annual Suncoast Offshore Grand Prix race held on the 4th of July weekend. This is one of the largest summer events in the region and drew huge crowds. The AMSOIL Offshore Race Boat and support rigs participated in the annual parade through the city of Sarasota. The annual parade was attended by tens of thousands of people, who lined the streets along the parade route.
During testing on Saturday, Team AMSOIL had the boat dialed in for the conditions of the day. By race time on Sunday, the conditions had changed significantly becoming quite a bit rougher. Because the race course was located several miles by water from the pits in the Gulf of Mexico, there was not an option of going down in prop pitch or gears which would have been better for the rougher conditions. The team had to settle for moving weight forward in the boat as the best solution.
Once the green flag dropped, Team AMSOIL, driven by Paul Whittier and throttled by Bob Teague, battled the conditions on the 80-mile race course, finishing strong in second place.
Currently, Team AMSOIL is the high points leader in Offshore Super Series, OPA, and Pacific Offshore Racing Association. The 2nd Place finish in Sarasota marks the 7th consecutive podium finish for Team AMSOIL this year. The team thanks AMSOIL for its great sponsorship package. Racing success is attributed to the superior quality of the AMSOIL Racing Lubricants that are used in the outdrives, engines and other systems of the boat. Thanks also go to AMF Offshore Racing for race support and their efforts to further the entire sport of offshore powerboat racing.

TEAM AMSOIL OFFSHORE SETS OFFICIAL OSS ENDURANCE SPEED RECORD & WINS OSS RACE TWO DAYS LATER
The AMSOIL Offshore racing team traveled to Sunny Isles Beach, Florida to compete in the inaugural OSS Don Aronow Memorial Offshore Powerboat Challenge weekend. The first event of the weekend was an endurance race from Miami to Bimini and back. Team AMSOIL entered the 2008 Bimini Run and complied with the pre-race safety requirements and passed all post-race technical inspections in order to compete to set an official OSS speed record. Twenty-two boats in various classes and configurations started the long range race. The boats were started at ten second intervals and were each timed separately. Team AMSOIL drew the 10th starting position. During the 106 plus mile race, Bob Teague and Paul Whittier ran a consistent pace passing all of the boats that started ahead of Team AMSOIL with the exception of one boat in the Unlimited class with 3100 horsepower. The final results were that team AMSOIL was the second fastest boat overall and placed as the first officially-OSS-sanctioned boat, with a completion time of 1 hour, 4 minutes and 47 seconds. Team AMSOIL’s average speed during the record run was 98.381 miles per hour. This excellent performance resulted in Team AMSOIL being declared the winner and record holder of the OSS Cat Lite Class for this event.
The OSS Board recently enacted a technical rule change for the OSS Cat Lite class requiring a single drive gear ratio of 1.50:1 instead of the established rule of allowing three different ratios. This required Team AMSOIL to spend the day on Saturday testing new set up combinations to accommodate the rule change. All in all, the AMSOIL Skater was run a total of 135 miles in testing on Saturday in preparation for the Sunday race.
The water and wind conditions changed overnight and some adjustments had to be made based off what was learned on Saturday. Prop selections were adjusted and weight was moved in the boat to accommodate the rougher conditions.
Team AMSOIL was assigned the number two lane in the starting position with Peppers on the inside and Team PropStop.net and Popeye’s Famous Chicken in the next two lanes to the right. When the pace boat threw the green flag, a battle ensued with Peppers down the first straightaway and into turn number one. The battle continued down the back stretch with Team AMSOIL gaining momentum on the inside lane. Peppers pulled in front of Team AMSOIL at turn four and Bob Teague and Paul Whittier intentionally drove through Peppers’ rooster tail to carry speed on an outside line. The maneuver resulted in Team AMSOIL passing Peppers at the exit of the turn. From there, Team AMSOIL continued to extend the lead over the Cat Lite fleet. During the race, Bob and Paul continued to dominate the class and ended up approximately 2 1/2 miles ahead of the second place boat. Team AMSOIL completed the 13 lap race in a total time of 46.5 minutes with an average speed of 95.33 miles per hour.
During the race weekend, including testing, setting the endurance record, and competing on Sunday, the AMSOIL boat traveled a combined distance of over 350 miles with incredible reliability.
The Bimini Record run and OSS race at Sunny Isles make for the fourth & fifth 1st place finishes in a row for Team AMSOIL after winning at the first installment of the OPA Triple Crown series in Ocean City, Maryland. Currently, Team AMSOIL is in first place in the points race in POPRA, OPA Triple Crown, and OSS. The team thanks AMSOIL for its great sponsorship package and the superior lubricants it offers. Thanks also go to AMF Offshore Racing for race support and their efforts to further the entire sport of offshore powerboat racing.

TEAMAMSOILBATTLESROUGHSEAS AND THE MOTLEY CREW TO TAKE THE CHECKERED FLAG IN OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.
The AMSOIL Offshore Team traveled 3,000 miles to attend the OPA Triple Crown season opener in Ocean City, Maryland on May 30 and June 1st. The event was well attended, boasting a record 54 teams and huge crowds. The event was well promoted by area newspapers and radio stations. Bob Teague was a guest on the 98.1 FM for an hour on Friday morning with the DJ “Bulldog” promoting the race and AMSOIL. The program was also on the station’s worldwide broadcast.
Friday was spent preparing the boat for Saturday’s test trials. Due to storms in the area, the seas in the Atlantic were extremely rough on Saturday which prevented many teams from testing. Team AMSOIL took the opportunity to try some new rough water set ups which helped prepare for the conditions on Sunday.
Team AMSOIL raced in the main event on Sunday which started at about 3 PM. This late starting time gave Mother Nature plenty of time to whip up the afternoon seas. A radical storm that passed through on Saturday night also left its mark with residual rollers. At race time, Team AMSOIL, with Bob Teague and Paul Whittier in the cockpit, took the green flag on a course with 5 to 6 foot confused seas. Immediately a fierce battle ensued with Team AMSOIL and Motley Crew running side by side crashing through and over the waves. Big air was the word of the day. Team AMSOIL took the initial lead and then was passed by the Crew. Ultimately, the lead changed four times during the race with the boats staying within a maximum of 5 lengths of each other. On the final turn of the race, Bob Teague and Paul Whittier picked an unexpected outside line carrying superior speed and passed the Motley Crew and continued to pull ahead down the final front straight away for the win.
This is the third 1st place finish in a row for Team AMSOIL after winning back to back at the Lake Havasu Desert Storm event. Currently, the Team is 1st place in the Miss Geico Triple Crown Series, 1st place in Pacific Offshore, and tied for 1st in the Offshore Super Series. The team thanks AMSOIL for its great sponsorship package and the superior lubricants it offers. Thanks also go to AMF Offshore Racing for race support and their efforts to further the entire sport of offshore powerboat racing. United We Race!
During Team AMSOIL’s trip to Ocean City, the final stages were completed of our independent tests of AMSOIL’s Diesel Fuel Additive Concentrate. The AMSOIL offshore race boat is towed by a custom Freightliner coach powered with a Cat C-12 pumped up to 500 horsepower. A long term test was conducted through various driving conditions with only Bob Teague as the driver which resulted in an average of 6.21 MPG. During the last 2000 miles of the Ocean City trip, AMSOIL Diesel Fuel Additive Concentrate was added to the fuel at a rate of 16 ounces per 80 gallons of fuel. After about 500 miles a noticeable improvement in fuel mileage was observed. Ultimately, after the next fill up, the fuel mileage observed during similar driving conditions and speeds improved to over 7.3 MPG. This increase in efficiency for the team helps to offset the soaring costs of diesel fuel.

TEAM AMSOIL #77 TAKES FIRST PLACE IN A DOUBLE HEADER AT THE 1ST ANNUAL OFFSHORE RACES IN LAKE HAVASU, AZ
The AMSOIL Offshore Racing Team just returned from an event-filled “Desert Storm / POPRA” weekend in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The city hosted a 4-day affair designed for high performance powerboat enthusiasts, and the attendance rivaled that of any other poker run or boat show that is held from coast to coast. The fanfare began on Thursday, April 24th with a street fair which spanned 6 blocks of McCulloch Blvd in the Downtown/Main Street District of Lake Havasu City. Thousands of people were able to view the AMSOIL #77 Offshore Race Boat on display along with its silver AMSOIL support trailer and vendor booth where AMSOIL Offshore Race Team apparel and AMSOIL product was for sale. The fair featured other race boats, high performance pleasure boats that would be in the event’s poker run, and various vendors of marine products and accessories. The Mayor of Lake Havasu City was so impressed with the turn-out that he would like to extend the event into a week-long affair for next year.
Friday was the Desert Storm Charity Poker Run, an event commonly regarded as the official kick-off of the boating season and the Who’s Who of high performance pleasure boaters from around the nation. The AMSOIL boat was docked and proudly displayed at Nautical Inn, the event headquarters. The Team was able to get in some test time in preparation for the next two days of back-to-back racing.
Saturday’s race was for Pacific Offshore points and Sunday’s race was for the Offshore Super Series national circuit. Extremely windy conditions made for a late start on Saturday due to difficulties with setting the buoys on the course. Once racing was underway, hundreds of floating spectator boats enjoyed the scene from just yards away. Lake Police had some difficulty with keeping excited spectators at bay. Team AMSOIL looked strong and kept a lead on the fleet with little drama in the race except for the collision of V-bottom teams, Second Chance and Wild Ride, a couple laps into the race in the North turn.
On Sunday, the Team competed in the second race of the day for the main event. A fierce battle between Team AMSOIL and Peppers/Lucas Oil ensued during the first lap. The Cat Lite teams approached the final turn of the first lap to find the end scene of a collision between Super Cat 850 boats Celerity Investments and WHM Motorsports. The driver of WHM was knocked unconscious and the boat was facing the wrong way on the course and slowly heading back towards the pin. AMSOIL drove a hard inside line to avoid the WHM boat, as Peppers pulled wide and drove past WHM on its other side. AMSOIL had a slight lead on the Peppers boat as they both drove down the next straight-away. As the race continued, AMSOIL’s lead consistently increased and the first place finish potential was locked in as Peppers went on the wrong side of the buoy during one of the final laps, which cost them too much time to make up.
Team AMSOIL is proud to take the checkered flag in both the Saturday and Sunday race events. The team thanks AMSOIL for its great sponsorship package and the superior lubricants it offers. Thanks also go to AMF Offshore Racing for race support and their efforts to further the entire sport of offshore powerboat racing. United We Race!

TEAM AMSOIL BATTLES TO A PODIUM FINISH AT THE OSS OPENER IN BILOXI
The AMSOIL Offshore Racing Team was the fan’s favorite at the annual Smokin’ the Sound Offshore Race in Biloxi, Mississippi. There were huge crowds present for the Offshore Super Series season opener. The City built a new dry pit area adjacent to the Isle of Capri Casino which added to the festive atmosphere.
Testing was held on Saturday with the races on Sunday. The Biloxi race course consists of two long straight-a-ways right in front of the casinos and then an exit at each end into the Gulf of Mexico. Each lap is approximately 9 miles. When the green flag dropped, it was Team Peppers, Team Propstop, and Team AMSOIL out front battling in heated competition. Team AMSOIL started experiencing steering problems with an erratic priority valve which made the boat harder to steer. In spite of the problems, Bob Teague and Paul Whittier were able to hold on to a solid second place finish 12 seconds behind Peppers and over a half a lap in front of the third place Fury. Team Propstop experienced mechanical problems about half way through the race and was forced to drop out.
The AMSOIL Offshore Racing Team is proud to debut their new support trailer which will also be at all the races this year. The Pace trailer is specially outfitted for support of the race boat. The color is silver to match the boat and the AMSOIL logos are proudly displayed. The team thanks AMSOIL for its great sponsorship package and the superior lubricants it offers.
